Another Good News story!

Today, we were able to help Julie (not her real name) who is in her mid 20's. She had missed an appointment with the Job Centre as she was in hospital with pneumonia. This has caused a glitch in her benefits. She came into the centre looking frightened but left with a smile on her face after a cup of tea and a listening ear. What a great job our volunteers do.

The Jeremy Smith Memorial Marathon 2016

In December 2014 Jeremy Smith, a regular volunteer at the Foodbank, tragically died of cancer.

His sons, Christopher (23), Matthew (21) and Alexander (21) are running the Paris Marathon on the 3rd of April for the Trussell Trust and in particular Colchester Foodbank, in memory of their Dad and the time he spent here helping those less fortunate.

So far they have raised nearly £3500.00.

Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this difficult time.

If you would like to make a contribution, their JustGiving page is

Chris, Matt and Alex, you are an inspiration to us all!  Thank you very much for your tremendous effort on behalf of the Trust and the Foodbank, your Dad would have been proud!

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank the Red Lion for their continued support and excellent service.

Did you take the  Foodbank Lent Challenge 2016?

We're all amazingly grateful to everyone who joined us for the Challenge, and helped us raise more than £450!

Many of those who took part commented that it had given them a new perspective on the Foodbank and our activities, and that they would spread the word among families and friends, which is just fantastic to hear - we couldn't do what we do without you!

Read more about it on our new blog, Keeping Colchester Fed.

Take the Foodbank Fair Lent Challenge!

The Fair Lent Challenge is to live on a Foodbank parcel for 3 days - just as our clients do - and to donate what you would have spent on shopping during that period to Colchester Foodbank.

If you think you're up to the Challenge and would like to experience receiving a parcel at the Foodbank - just as our clients do - with a welcoming cup of tea and a piece of cake, we will be running the Challenge on three days:

  • Thursday 18 February
  • Monday 22 February
  • Saturday 27 February

The centre will be open on these three days from 2:30pm - 3:30pm for you to drop in.

Email for further details and put I AM IN into the subject field. We will send you further details.

This is a wonderful opportunity to do some good at Lent and also to learn more about how the Foodbank operates on a day-to-day basis!

Pound for a Pound

As the winter bites electricity and gas bills go up and the most needy in our community struggle between heating and eating. Lots of charities feel the pinch as pressure is put on their resources with the increase in needs.

Colchester Foodbank is no different and one of our trustees is going through some personal pain (as an overweight Trustee) to support the charity in a fundraiser. There is an option to join in if you want to fundraise and support us also. To donate click the link below.

We appreciate anything you are able to do to help out however small or big the donation.
