Colchester Foodbank Volunteers Receive King’s Award for Voluntary Service

19th April 2024

On Friday, April 12th, 2024, our hearts swelled with pride as we had the privilege of hosting the King’s Award Presentation for Voluntary Service. The King’s Award for Voluntary Service is the equivalent to an MBE for volunteers, representing the highest honour a volunteer can receive. It’s awarded for life, symbolising a lifelong commitment to service and making a positive impact in the community.

We are incredibly honoured to be among the very first volunteers to receive the King’s Award for Voluntary Service.

It was a momentous occasion made even more special by the gracious presence of the Lord Lieutenant, Jennifer Tolhurst.

The highlight of the event was when HM Lord Lieutenant Jennifer Tolhurst personally presented us with the King’s Award crystal and certificate, signed by the King himself. This recognition serves as a testament to the incredible efforts of our volunteers, whose unwavering dedication and selflessness have touched countless lives within our community.

With over 240 volunteers spread across 10 satellites in Colchester, each individual has played a vital role in our mission. Their tireless efforts, without question and with complete dedication, have truly made a difference. They are the backbone of our Foodbank, and it is with immense pride that we celebrate their achievements.

Every second of our celebration on Friday was a tribute to these remarkable individuals who embody the spirit of service and compassion. Their commitment to making a positive impact is truly inspiring, and we are grateful for the opportunity to recognise and honour their contributions.

The presence of over 60 dignitaries and VIPs with our volunteers, friends, and family at the celebration added to the joyous atmosphere. Together, we shared smiles and clinking glasses, marking an afternoon filled with warmth and camaraderie.

It was a truly wonderful afternoon that will remain etched in everyone’s memories for years to come. As we reflect on the success of the event, we are reminded of the power of community and the importance of recognising the contributions of those who make a difference every day.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating this special occasion. To all the Dignitaries and VIP’s that took time out of their day, to help support and celebrate with us. And to our guest speakers who spoke about their foodbank experiences. Your presence and support mean the world to us, and we look forward to continuing our journey together, making a positive impact in our community.

We are profoundly grateful to CVS Tendering for nominating Colchester FoodBank for the King’s volunteer Award. Their recognition and support mean the world to us and have made this incredible honour possible. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for believing in our mission and for your unwavering support. We are deeply humbled by this opportunity and will continue to work tirelessly to make a positive impact in our community.

As we reflect on this unforgettable day, we extend our deepest gratitude to all our volunteers for their outstanding work. Together, we are making a difference and shaping a brighter future for our community.
