Cuppa Kindness
Spread kindness in Colchester by paying forward a cup of coffee. You can also volunteer to listen, to help us understand the underlying issues that put people into crisis.
This is a listening campaign aiming to improve our understanding of what causes people to fall on harder times in Colchester. By listening, we can gain a better understanding of the issues, find the patterns and create sustainable projects and campaigns to find solutions and create a positive impact, so that fewer people need the foodbank.
Most importantly, it’s also about spreading kindness and growing compassion in our community.
The idea is to partner with willing local cafes across our community to offer its customers an option to buy an extra cup of coffee along with whatever they’re already getting for themselves. This extra cup will be saved as a coupon for someone that can come in and claim it. Someone from our Community Organising team will be at the cafe and offer to have a conversation with the person claiming the coupon. We would look to listen regarding their thoughts on any issues they’re currently experiencing so we can understand what causes people to fall on harder times.
Our goal is to talk with people we may not have otherwise, understand the issues in our communities better and to also change the perception of the community on what our foodbank does. We do so much more than give out food parcels. The nature of this campaign also allows us to interact with the right people who need our help and build compassion within the community.
The participating cafe’s right now are:
A cozy cafe full of scrumptious home made cakes, located on Lion Walk.
A vibrant cafe with some truly mouthwatering bakery, located on Eld Lane.
A delightful cafe with an authentic cuisine uniting two cultures, located on Eld Lane.
An archaeological cafe that serves an amazing coffee, right by the Colchester Castle.
A unique cafe with vintage clothes, books, and vinyl along with some tasty coffee. Located on Eld Lane.
A pleasant cafe with fresh cakes and delicious food overall, located on Old Heath Road.
A pleasant cafe with generous service, located on Hawthorn Avenue.
